I meet with adults who long to like themselves, be emotionally close or vulnerable with their loved ones, navigate conflict in relationships, recover from burnout, or feel safe after trauma. If this sounds like you, I would love to meet with you and explore how therapy might support you. Please reach out to get started.
Teens respond well to playful approaches, and so I often integrate activities like the sandtray, expressive arts, games, and books. I collaborate with teens on how playful or talk-based they prefer their sessions to be. Closure is an important part therapy, and the final session is planned together with teens, parents and the therapist.
Life after trauma can feel exhausting and scary. The foundation of trauma treatment is building a safe and trusting relationship between you and your therapist. During the resourcing and stabilization phase of therapy, you'll learn about trauma reactions that have been working on overdrive in attempts to keep you safe. You'll also practice various ways of "signalling safety" to your nervous system, which is likely on high alert as it tries to protect you. We will establish a pace of therapy that feels manageable for you. EMDR therapy (described below) is a specialized trauma treatment approach.
The natural language of children is PLAY! When meeting with children I integrate play-based approaches, such as sandtray, expressive arts, games, and books to support them with building emotional literacy, expressing feelings about challenging circumstances, and practicing new coping strategies. Play is a non-threatening way to explore feelings through pretend characters who are experiencing similar things to the child. Through play, I can better understand a child's inner world and model new skills through pretend or role-play. Child therapy starts with a parent intake session to collaborate.
Therapeutic groups are offered periodically, and new groups are developed in response to themes that arise in sessions. Please let me know if you are interested in groups related to specific topics.

I offer family therapy for sibling groups or parents and children of all ages, including adult children. I support parents of children with challenging or confusing behaviours. Goals often include improving communication, reducing conflict, becoming better listeners, feeling closer, setting or accepting boundaries, or navigating relationship changes as children gain independence as teens or adults. I seek to understand your family's communication patterns and underlying needs for connection and support. We'll try out new ways your family can express and listen for these needs.
Sometimes people have attempted to resolve trauma symptoms through logical or thought-based approaches. However, bodily symptoms of trauma, distressing emotions, or self-critical thoughts may feel stuck or linger on despite years of talk-based therapy. Memories of traumatic events are stored in more fragmented ways than other memories; because of this, your body and brain may respond to triggers as if the trauma is still happening to you. EMDR is a specialized, experiential, and somatic trauma treatment that can help people neutralize distressing automatic emotions, body-based reactions, and negative beliefs about themselves. EMDR can help the body trust that the trauma is really over, so people can use their energy to grow and thrive.

Pivotal Moments is located on the traditional territory of the Anishnaabe, Haudenosaunee and Neutral peoples. I am committed to ongoing learning about the history of exploitation and oppression on this land, acknowledging how I unfairly benefit from this history as a descendent of white settlers, and seeking ways to live in harmony with my neighbours.
